Problem
A Siemens PLC (e.g. S7-300) is connected to the StrideLinx router with use of a serial converter (e.g. IBH Link S7++). When then testing the variables for use in Live data, Historical data, or Alarming (Run test in the Fleet Manager), you get a timeout error.
This article assumes that basic troubleshooting has already been performed. That includes:
- The IP address of the data source to match the IP address of the serial converter.
- The device configuration in the StrideLinx Cloud has been pushed to the device (StrideLinx router).
- When pinging the IP address of the serial converter, you get a response.
Cause
The serial converter doesn't know how to reply to the StrideLinx router. As a result the StrideLinx router doesn't get a response to the data requests and a timeout error is shown.
Solution
Check the network settings of the serial converter and make sure that the StrideLinx router's LAN IP address is entered as the default gateway. Note that this is necessary for serial converters even when the feature Source NAT is enabled in the StrideLinx router settings.
